Brannon Briggs, Shootings, Obituary Death;18-Year-Old Killed at Perlstein Park in Beaumont

Beaumont police are continuing to investigate a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 18-year-old Brannon Briggs Thursday afternoon at Perlstein Park following reports of a large disturbance involving multiple individuals.

According to preliminary information released by the Beaumont Police Department, officers responded to the 800 block of Landis Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a fight involving nearly 20 people. During the altercation, gunfire erupted, striking Briggs. Emergency responders transported the teenager to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have identified 18-year-old Jean Harrell as the primary suspect in the case. Harrell has been charged with murder and is currently being held on a reported $1.2 million bond. Court-imposed conditions reportedly include home confinement, GPS monitoring, and no contact with witnesses or members of the victim’s family should bond be posted.

Investigators also confirmed that a second teenager was initially detained in connection with the incident; however, charges against that individual were later dropped following additional review of evidence gathered during the investigation.

Officials state the shooting remains under active investigation as detectives continue reviewing witness statements, surveillance footage, forensic evidence, and digital communications believed to be connected to the incident. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests or charges.

The incident has deeply impacted residents throughout the Beaumont community, particularly those connected to Pathways Alternative Learning Center, where both Briggs and Harrell were reportedly students. Community members continue mourning the loss of a young life while calling for increased efforts to address youth violence and conflict resolution.
